PLANNING FOR EXTERIOR PAINTING SEASON
We are quickly approaching the exterior painting season, but that does not mean you should rush into it too early. To cure properly, all exterior paints require consistent temperatures of 10 degree Celsius or higher, including overnight temperatures. Exterior wood surfaces requiring a new coat of paint need to dry out thoroughly from the cold, damp winter and spring weather. If new paint is applied to wet surfaces, the adhesion will eventually fail as the moisture pushes its way out through the new paint finish. In the GTHA exterior painting is usually not suggested until mid-May. So get a quote for the work you wish to do, but don’t let anyone complete the work until the weather and temperatures are at the proper condition.
